Jody and I lived in California for 18 months, and we got to see the Redwood Forrest; what shocked me was the height of those trees. Did you know they can grow as tall as 350 feet? And then something else shocked me: their roots are very shallow, just a few feet deep. Why don’t those trees topple over in the wind? Because their roots, while shallow, are very wide, and they all interconnect with each other so that when the storms hit and the winds blow, they support each other. It was the winter of 1944. The German army was in a desperate situation, and they launched what became known as the Battle of the Bulge. Their strategy was to send German spies to infiltrate the American ranks. These infiltrators would set up roadblocks and direct military units the wrong way. We are studying the Book of Galatians. We’re in chapter 1, and we now come to a section where Paul tells his personal story. To get us thinking about why he tells his story, let me ask you this: can anything change the nature of a human being? Can anything change our thinking so that one day we’re thinking one way, the next completely opposite? Can anything change our hearts? Our identity? The very core of who we are!
